Thank You Ms. Basloe – Abdel :0

Dear Ms. Basloe,

I want to thank you for organizing the New Victory Theater trip. My favorite part was when both men were battling with their viola and electric violin. The other part I liked when the Black violinists played “Viva la Vida”. I learned that you could do what you wanted without giving up. I also learned that when teachers and parents do something, they do it for you. And when you grow we’ll understand. I really appreciate it. Thank you again!!! Abdelrahman Saleh

Light by Abdel 5-305

How can we live in a world of light

Where nothing roams but death and fright

The only thing that scares it is NIGHT

Erase the line between genius and insane

The thing that will save you from light is

Your

Jeopardy for Black History by Michael C.

The Black History Month Game Show was a great end to Black History Month. It was held in the auditorium on March24,2009. Mrs.Stamp was the Mistress of Ceremonies, and Mrs.Saby was calculating the points. It was the Blue team against the Red team. The teams were mixtures of fifth and fourth graders. The Blue team prevailed over the Red team, even though in the first round they were trailing. Christian from class 4-310 took the Blue team to victory when he successfully answered the 50,000 point question: Who broke the color barier in baseball? The crowd went wild when Christian answered: “Jackie Robinson!” The final score was 154,000 to 180,000. If your class representative were on the winning team, your class received an ice cream party compliments of Mrs. McLaughlin. Mrs. Saby had this to say, “The chilldren did a fantastic job studying their facts and as a result this was a stiff competition.”

Black History by Guerdson

The the month of February America celebrates black history (though it should be all year). Black History is honoring blacks who helped our country such as Martin Luther King Jr, Rosa Parks and Alvin Ailey. Martin Luther King JR helped our country by telling the whole world segregation was wrong because segregation hurts African-Americans AND white people. Rosa Parks helped our country by allowing blacks to sit on public transportation as well as whites. On the Montgomery bus, a white man told Rosa Parks to give up her seat- but Rosa Parks said she will not give up her seat because it wasn’t fair that only whites could sit where they wanted. Then 10 minutes later the cops came an arested Rosa Parks. Alvin Ailey helped our country by making a Alvin Ailey dance company. It made Black and Whites work together. Sadly Alvin Ailey died of AIDS in 1989.

On March 6, 2009- PS.119 had its first Red Carpet Event. First kids from 5th and 4th grade spoke about  notable people such as Muhammad Ali, Maya Angelou, Alvin Ailey, Bob Marley and Nelson Mandela. Then the PS.119 choir sang the Black National Anthem, Lift Ev’ry Voice and Sing. The last part there were the fabulous PS 119 Dancers. They were dancing to the famous African American jazz composer Miles Davis. At the end, Ms.Snow asked who do you this is the best? The people chose Alvin Ailey.
